The Criminal Justice Mental Health Team (CJMHT) comprises of qualified nursing staff, experienced and trained in a variety of assessment, treatment, Intervention and support options. The team can provide on-going support and treatment for individuals with mental health concerns and difficulties.

 Referrals all received via email to bchft.crimjustice@nhs.net need to:

  • Have Informed Consent of the referral;
  • Have had contact with the criminal justice system in the last three months;
  • Be living within the Black Country area with a Black Country registered GP;
  • Be over 18 years old;
  • Have a diagnosed or suspected primary mental health concern.

Support and treatment offered is tailored to the needs of the individual to promote recovery and reduce re-offending.

The team works with numerous agencies such as probation, police, GP, voluntary and community sector and other healthcare providers. They assist with Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA); Multi Agency Case Conference (MACC); Approved Premises (AP); Integrated Offender Management (IOM); support secondary care health pathways and act as secure service locality supervisors for individuals in secure intensive support facilities across the country.

Secondary care team referrals are only considered from care co-ordinators, to joint work navigation of the criminal justice pathways and treatment remains the responsibility of the secondary care team.

The team is small and does not have resource or provision for care co-ordination, crisis or urgent care management, but will signpost to appropriate services where possible.
