Who are the Care Quality Commission (CQC)?
The CQC make sure health and social care services, such as the NHS, provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage care services to improve. They also set out what good and outstanding care looks like and make sure services meet fundamental standards below which care must never fall.
Why are they visiting?
They monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and publish what they find, including performance ratings to help people choose care. They will listen to and act on experiences of care through these inspections. Changes in quality are monitored by bringing together what people who use services tell them, knowledge from inspections and information provided by us.
When are they coming?
We don’t know. They can arrive at any time without giving notice.
What do they want to know?
They may ask you about the care you are receiving and your experience of our services. The information you provide helps them to decide when, where and what to inspect. By sharing your experiences we can all make care better together.
Will what I say affect my care?
All feedback is treated confidentially so what you say will not negatively affect the care you receive. We always want to hear about what is working well and where improvements can be made to improve things in future and this is how we will use your feedback but we won’t know it has come directly from you.
Do I have to talk to them?
It is completely your choice whether you wish to speak to them, although we hope you do as it helps us identify what we are doing well and where we can make things better.
