Communities across the Black Country will have the chance to learn more about eating disorders thanks to a free webinar this month.

Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will host the online event which aims to shine a light on the Trust’s all-age eating disorder service and to grow understanding of eating disorders.

The webinar is open to people across the Black Country and beyond and will be an opportunity for people to find out more about the recent transformation of the Trust’s services, how to spot signs of an eating disorder, the importance of early intervention and how to access support.

The event takes place on Monday 27 February as part of Eating Disorders Awareness Week, which this year has a particular focus on raising awareness of how men are impacted by eating disorders.

It comes as around one in four people with eating disorders are men, yet their symptoms can often go unnoticed by those around them.

Dean Bourne, an expert by experience for eating disorders, will share his story at the webinar.

Dean, who works as a peer support worker with the eating disorder service at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Anyone can be affected by an eating disorder and men are no exception.

“I will be sharing my experience and recovery journey so people can learn more about eating disorders, especially from a male perspective.

“It’s also a chance to learn more about our service in the Black Country and how to access support, so people know they are not alone if they or a loved one has an eating disorder.”

The webinar takes place on Monday 27 February, 10am to 11.30am via Zoom. To register a free place at the webinar, visit: eatingdisorderswebinar.eventbrite.co.uk
