An award-winning assistant psychologist at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is in the running for a national award celebrating leaders of the future at a glittering award ceremony this month.

Fauzia Khan has been nominated in the ‘Future Leader Award category at the InsideOut Awards 2023.

The awards celebrate organisations and individuals who have demonstrated leadership, innovation and best practice in promoting mental health in the workplace. Fauzia’s category recognises individuals who have made an impact to show potential as future leaders.

Fauzia, who works in the Sandwell Older Adults Enhanced Community Mental Health Team, has supported the learning and development of colleagues and advocated for staff wellbeing, which saw her co-develop a staff wellbeing workshop initiative during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fauzia is also passionate about making mental health services more inclusive for people from underrepresented and marginalised groups and widening access to the psychology profession.

To inspire others with similar experiences, she recently published a book chapter about her experiences pursuing a psychology career from an underrepresented background.

Reacting to her nomination, Fauzia said: “I’m excited to be shortlisted as a finalist for the InsideOut Future Leader Award. This nomination means so much to me, especially as someone still somewhat early in their career.

“The Trust has provided me with so many amazing opportunities as an Assistant Psychologist, and I would like to thank everyone for their unwavering support throughout the process. There are too many people to name, but you know who you are – thank you!”

Fauzia is no stranger to awards success as last November, she scooped the ‘Outstanding Mental Health Professional Award’ at the Mental Health and Wellbeing Awards in recognition for going the extra mile for her patients and colleagues.

Fauzia will find out if she has won at the InsideOut Award gala dinner on Thursday, 30 March, at the Troxy in London.
