Our people strategy 2021-2023
We are excited to share with you - our partners, neighbours and friends - the first people strategy for our Trust. The people strategy describes the priorities that will help us to have a staff family that continues to make a positive difference for the people we care for across the Black Country.
Our Trust is our people. We do many different jobs. Some of us work directly with our patients in a variety of roles; medical, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, healthcare support and more. Some of us support by keeping other aspects of our organisation running so that our more patient-facing colleagues can focus on delivering the high quality care we are known for.
Together, we are a team. Whatever job role is on our staff ID badge and wherever we sit (some of us virtually for now) we share a common goal; driven by our Trust’s vision “Together with you to achieve healthier, happier lives”. We proudly work with others in the health and care system, and in our communities to achieve this. Our team is not determined by organisational or other boundaries. The people strategy will support our Trust’s vision by ensuring we have the right people in the right place with the right values, behaviours and skills. We all want BCHFT to be a BOSTIN place to work and a BOSTIN team to work with, and this is how we are going to achieve this for everyone:
B BCHFT A BOSTIN PLACE TO WORK
We want our trust to be a great place to work. To help us make it really BOSTIN we have developed a PEOPLE STRATEGY. This is a plan of what we are going to do over the next couple of years to support our people. It has five priorities:
O OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL OUR PEOPLE
We will make sure that everyone has opportunities to develop in their career, whatever their ambitions are. We will be innovative in how we help them learn, develop and grow in our trust. We will remove barriers to progression. We will actively challenge racism and prejudices and become an anti-racist Trust.
S SUPPORTIVE LEADERS AND MANAGERS
We will make sure that our leaders and managers support everyone, acting as role models and upholding our trust values and behaviours. This includes making sure our people have the right resources to do their job.
T TREAT ALL WITH CARE AND KINDNESS
We will care for everyone, and support everyone’s health and wellbeing so they can live a healthier, happier life. We will learn from our people about their experience at work and make positive change to improve this.
I INSPIRING A POSITIVE WORKPLACE
We will develop a positive and authentic culture in our trust where everyone lives our values and behaviours in everything they do. We will support our people to act with initiative in a safe environment where everyone feels they can speak up.
N NEW PEOPLE WANT TO JOIN, ALL WANT TO STAY!
We will be proactive in recruiting new people to join our team and support all of our staff to want to stay. We will think about how we can adapt job roles or ways of working to have the right people with the right skills in the right place.
We would like to hear what you think about the strategy and how we can be a better partner, neighbour and friend. To discuss please email us on bchft.communications@nhs.net
